Read how our work should help ensure a seaside town keeps their Blue Flag status.
Residents of a seaside town – already disappointed their Blue Flag status had been lost – were complaining of foul smells in the air. In addition, our Anglian Water colleagues were dealing with several blockages in the area.
To address this, the sewers were cleansed, and we worked with local food businesses to show them how to correctly dispose of their fats, oils, and grease (FOG) to avoid blockages, sewer floods and pollution.
Environmental education activities must be offered to locals to help gain Blue Flag status. In addition, to address the reports of nasty odours, Anglian Water used performic acid to disinfect bacterial and viral microorganisms to treat the wastewater from the seaside town.
